Re: Shame the Whipper
I agree with community service. Next Muir Valley Trail day. They should also apologize for making Michigan climbers look bad. We get enough shit as it is.

Re: Poverty and Rock Climbing
This conversation is fairly interesting and entertaining. One thing we have to remember is the human brain is designed to use stereotypes. We categorize things so we can process them and understand our world. But they only work to a degree and once we start talking about individuals, all bets are of...

Re: Roadside Permits and Zoo Approach
I know it's not fun to say something to other climbers, but when they are clearly breaking the rules for an area we should say something. If we don't police ourselves then places like Roadside will get shut down again. I know I've encountered several people at Roadside with dogs or who definitely di...

Re: Agonizingly Close....
Got agonizingly close on Ro Shampo once again. At least my 2 training partners sent. I'll just bask in their glory until I get down there again. Sucks projecting routes from Michigan.

Re: Buddy checks, a thing of the past?
Everyone I climb with seems to check each other before climbing. Though several of my friends tie a double bowline, so when I check it I just tell them "it's a knot" since it is way harder to verify than the figure 8. I also like to check to make sure my climber is psyched to climb before ...

Re: looking for partners and guidance :)!!
The Red River Gorge is closed :( I hear the New River Gorge in West Virginia is really tolerant of non-English speaking climbers. If you count 5.9 as climbing... Its amazing how douchy some people are here. Anyway, Id be happy to go out with you one day and could probably connect you with some clim...

Land of the Arches is pretty awesome and very laid back. Has all the facilities you would need. Both of the campgrounds you mentioned are great too. Can't really go wrong either way.

Re: From the gym to the crag: The revenge of the gumby
I would highly suggest the use of helmets, especially for newbies. They will likely not want to wear them because they don't look "cool" and you don't wear them in the gym, but outside is different and all it takes is one fall with a weird spin to knock your noggin on the rock. Save the ki...
