Fires in Muir

Apparently some visitors to Muir have forgotten that published rules specifically prohibit fires. There have been several unauthorized fires built in the Valley over the past few months, even after a large, carelessly started forest fire three years ago.
Monday a group of climbers built a campfire at the belaying base of Johnny’s Wall. When informed by a representative of Muir that this was not allowed, they argued that there was no rule against fire and they needed it to keep warm.
Flameless propane catalytic heaters and chemical hand warmers are fine; building a fire in Muir is not.

Just get me names and I'll take care of the dirty work

Some people like learning rules the hard way..

Seriously, post the names if you know or where the tools are from, and maybe a little tough love just on the forum will help keep people honest.

that sucks. Personally I like going to Muir but avoid the moderate areas cause of stupid things like that going on that I don't want to get involved with or have to haul them out. Seriously, how stupid can you get? so cold you need to build a freaking fire, stay in the f*cking gym

kirker, names won't do much - they're obviously not people we know. we need names AND mug shots

How can you walk on to someone private land and build a fire? I am sorry, but they are most likely not educable, not even the hard way.

I think the old gate and combination lock thing was a great idea...
We could band together and hire a TSA screener for the weekends.
