The Red Grades Vs The Rest?

Just curious I worked with a climber this winter, (well ex climber) who told me that the grades in the East were stiffer than the grades in the west....for instance Seneca was the breaking ground for 5.10 etc. I was wondering if anyone has climbed enough out west to compare the grades? Does a 5.8 etc feet like a similar 8 back here in the red? So If one were to bust their butt in the Red would they be decently ready for the rock out west?

your poll is not effective..if we vote "no", are we saying our grades are stiff or easy compared to out west?

Curently living in Zion and spending much time at Red Rocks, Saint george, VRG, maple Canyon, etc.. and having learned to climb at the Red, grades are MUCH softer out here....except for joshua tree

Some will say they the grades are softer/harder here, others will say that it's all about the style of climbing that you encounter at different areas across the country, blah blah blah.

Yes.

You cant say grades in east vs west, it all varies from crag to crag, I have done a lot of routes in the Red, if they were other places they wouldnt have the grade that they have. For instance, everyone (that ive talked to) says that brilliant orange at the gold coast is harder than 13a, well if that route were in say the VRG or the New, it would be 12c probably, Such different climbing all over.

has seemed way way stiffer in Wyoming, but I don't climb hard. Some areas I have been to in Montana seem stiff, too. But that may be bc the rock is so terrifying to begin with.

It all depends what you call east...I heard ratings at Rumney are stiff. I don't know since it is one place I would like to climb in the future.
