McCain

I was listening to a BBC podcast called Friday Night Comedy (I think it's from BBC4) and they had a couple of good McCain jokes:

"A lot of pundits are saying McCain isn't Republican enough. Hasn't he shot anyone in the face yet?"

"McCain is very unpopular with Southern conservatives. It seems he may be an abolitionist or something."

And a completely un-McCain joke I heard last week:
"I've decided to spend every day as if it were my last: laying in bed all day, drifting in and out of consciousness."

I love the Conservatives tearing themselves apart with their realization that McCain will be there man. That is such sweet just desserts.
I think the cautionary tale here is that the Conservative Right will not come out for McCain (at least that is what they are saying now), and let a Dem win and allow the right to skewer the Dems for the next four years. The pendulum, currently swinging to the left with four years of OBama or Clinton, will swing hard back to the right and we will get another ultra conservative zealot for eight years.
Could it be that the shrewdest move for the left is to support McCain, and with Dem control of the House and Senate, work with a center right president (McCain), thus blunting the pendulum swing back to the right and allowing the conservatives to destroy their own party from within, fragmenting the party, and marginalizing the religious right to the outside where they belong?

Lurkist - Scenario one would be an incredibly stupid move by the far right. Are they stupid enough to go that route? We'll see.

Scenario two? Now matter how shrewd it might appear to be, the left won't go for McCain in the general election, not with Clinton or Obama as the alternative. They'll worry about 2012 when the time comes.

Unfortunately, I think that is the long and short of the vision of the electorate.

ah, democracy at work..messy.

I find it "humorous" that you Lurkist would want any "group" marginalized. that seems so, um, un-liberal. what's next, hispanics who don't speak english? just because they seem a "threat" to you with their belief system....isn't that the same as say, not allowing atheists like caribe and shamis to not vote?

seems to me with a pathetic percentage of americans actually ever voting in the general election, our time would be better served encouraging MORE people to vote for THEIR president. whomever wins, they are MY president, and I support them.

sorry to disappoint, but I am american first, partisan second. now, go Obama!

it doesn't matter at all piggie. people will still bash for no reason other than to bash. how many people who didn't vote at all bash the shit out of bush?? find a target and attack it regardless of actual wrong doings. heck kind of sounds like what his office did overseas.
i generally do not vote. GASP!! oh my!! but i also do not complain about the government. my vote doesn't matter, my voice isn't heard, my rights are not mine and for that reason i don't vote. besides there is more useless shit to bitch about.

Touche, mein porcine friend. It would indeed be far better to see a 80% turnout.
So I will amend my statement to say that in addition to getting the vote out across the spectrum, I think that it would be in the best interest of the country to avoid huge swings in the idealogical pendulum. How about a move back to the center. Extremism is what we have had for the past eight years.

now we agree

only problem, I don't know what "porcine" is, but it sounds grand.

the pathetic voter turnout is my biggest complaint....I doubt the voice of the far right would be very strong if EVERY person in America did their duty and voted. it is only because the republicans have done a superb job of turning out this slice of America that they seem to hold weight. they are a reliable bloc for the republicans, as is the black vote for democrats. the hispanic vote has been the current bloc courted by both parties. that is why most politicians are afraid to take a real stand on immigration and securing our borders. it "might" be their death sentence.

Of, or relating to pig or pigs...

Strange- I just used that word in a conversation today
and had to give the definition afterwards. Fun word, right
up there with simian.
