I've not had to clean mine yet, but seems to me that I read a thread on climbKy about rope cleaning. Seems like someone put the rope in the shower with them and kinda danced on it. Sounded like fun to me!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Usually I never remember my rope needs washed until I pull it out next weekend at the crag, but on the occasional times I do, I just daisy-chain it (don't ask I can't explain), and throw it in the top-loading washer (gasp) at home with a smidge of Woolite.
If its real dirty like now, I'll run it through with plain water the first time, then add the Woolite the secong go round.
Always on Gentle Cycle.
Undo the daisy-chain and drap it over something in the basement to dry.

I gave up trying to keep a clean rope about two years ago. It will be just as dirty after two weekend in the red as it was before you washed it. Now, if I was climbing somewhere with less sand and dirt, then it might be nice to have a clean rope.
