So what's with Doug Reed route names. There's "Another Doug Reed Route" at Military, I just saw the Rumbling Bald video off of climbxmedia.com with "Doug Reed Toprope" and for some reason I think that there are more routes with his name in their name. I don't want to accuse a complete stranger of egotism, but what's the deal?

well, i climb at the new river gorge a lot, and there a tons of doug's routes that are unnamed. i think the deal with this, is that he did sooooo many routes all over the place, he really didn't care about naming them, and other people just put a name on them for him. there are routes at endless wall just know as "doug reed warm-up", "doug reed route", etc.. hell, just look in the index of a new river guide book and look under the letter "U", for "unnamed" routes....doug reed's name will be after more than half of them. sometimes he'd grade them totally wrong because he's done so many routes. like one route down there, "puppy chow"...when he did it years ago, he rated it .11d....now it's considered solid .12c/d.... guess it's kinda like sharma not rating or naming things...they just don't care about that aspect of first ascents. sorry for ranting, that's just my 2 cents.......

If you look at Potter and Synd's select guide, it is listed as "Un-named Doug Reed route"
