Oh man, see, if you said in the (1-2K range, I'd be all over that =) )

Funny enough, someone ask me the same question about a month ago.

I was comparing the Nikon and Canon Point and shoots.

After looking through, I would personally pick one of these 4 based on specs...keep in mind that once you get above 6MP, it doesn't really matter....so I wouldn't use that as a yard stick, check out stuff like LCD screen, and optical zoom. Keep in mind, most of the time, I have trouble getting far enough away from the climber (especially when they're 6'6" cough cough), so having a min zoom of 28mm is better than 35mm

I'd probably pick the P50....but you'll be happy with any of them for sure.

I love my D70s (Nikon) and all my lenses, but had a horrible experience with a CoolPix. Junk in my opinion. On the other hand, I know several people with Canon point-and-shoots who love 'em and have had zero problems.

Definitely hold them all as cameras depend as much on fit as a good pair of shoes.

Good luck.

NOTE Digital photography is cool. Different than film, but cool nonetheless.

Dell.com had the cannon Rebel XT for 389 recently, granted it was body only, but you can pick up their basic lense off ebay for 40-50 bucks.

Ditto on the Olympus Stylus. I posted some pics of Royal Arches and Half Dome taken with mine (climbing photo thread III). This is your camera if you're looking for something that slips in a pocket and takes great pics. $300.
