I'm thinking of going on a bouldering/climbing trip in early January and was wondering if anyone could make some recommendations for crags farther south (but still in the US) that would have a bit warmer weather. Anything in southern Alabama or Georgia? I've looked on RC.com but nothing is a standout. Looking for climbs in the 5.11 to .12+ range. Any tips would be greatly recommended.

I went to sandrock & jamestown last january thinking that alabama = warm.
sandrock is on top of a mountain and it was COLD!!! it got down to 15 degrees at night and was super windy. i froze. during the day it wasn't so bad - i think it got up to 45 or so. on the upside the view was spectacular!
Jamestown was all trad if i remember correctly. it was also pretty difficult to locate. we drove around a bit trying to find the pulloff/trail. i was told the ratings there are a bit stiff. i was too new when i went there to be an accurate judge of that statement, though.
hope you have a great trip!

anybody been to Tallulah Gorge for climbing? the wall faces south so it would probably be ok for winter climbing.

I don't understand the problem. I climb all winter in the south. When I lived in NC I climbed three days a week outside all through Jan and Feb. Suck it up and climb something. At least you have a chance to climb outside, all I can do is climb in the gym.

what crawled in your ass and made you all grouchy today Andrew? climbing in the cold isn't a big deal but its nice to camp in above freezing temperatures.
Mike, thanks for the tips.
