Im thinking of coming to the red for a couple of weeks in dec and jan. Im on break from school in AZ and just wanted to know what the scene is like during this time. I would be coming from dayton ohio so I would need to be fairly certain that I could find a partner. any ideas?

The lurkist has a new invention for old wussie climbers that still climb hard and want to do so in the snow.

Sure it hurts a little more when its in the 30's, but I'll take numb hands over clothes soaked with sweat any day.. I look farward to this time of the year. The week after Thanksgiving until spring break weekend are the best. No crowds, killer friction, NO SNAKES...
But you will have more trouble picking up a partner, staying warm at nite, or even getting a good bite to eat. I would recommend locking in a partner before making the trip down.

Shut up Kirker. Seriously man, don't climb here in December through February. The locals will eat you.

Jeff one more bit of advise if you do make it down. Avoid the brunette that goes by Morgan she's verbally abusive.

i'd be cautious on asking lurkist his recommendations about climbing in the cold. after all, we're talking about a man who went on record a few posts back declaring that he prefers to roast his nuts over a propane heater between sends.

I still say that playing with yourself is the best way to keep warm in the cold.

the climbing is great in the winter. the days are shorter, and you usually need to wait for it to warm up a bit before climbing, but it's still great. just keep an eye out for the rainy days. stay at lil' abner's motel.. it's cheap. have fun!

I am from Dayton too, I don't like the cold weather...50 degrees is all I can do outside but if we get any good days PM me. I work from home so during the week is OK too as long as I know 1 day ahead of time.
