cloud splitter
does anyone know how to get to cloud splitter .
DO NOT go staight up from KY 715! Those user defined trails are all erroded and you'll get a ticket if you park along 715 in the area of these 'trails'.
Sack it up and hike in on the Shelletowee Trace. There is an unmarked user defined trail off the Trace that will take you up to Cloudsplitter. Its obvious if you know where Cloudsplitter is, grab a topo and get out there and explore.
Or you could go over to www.kywilderness.com and search for directions.

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
Take the Shelotwee Trace north from the suspension bridge. There are a series of turns in the trail where the trail will cut towards the ridge line on the left. You will pass a small rock house with a downed hemlock tree. This is an indication you are very close. On the third and deepest cut to the left (about 2 miles in) there is a dark grove of hemlock trees. Just on the other side of the cut there is a log (about 10 to 12 in in dia) across the trail that has been cut in half. This is the marker to know that you are there. On the other side of the log is a drainage ditch going up the hill on the left. Follow it up. It leads to the top of Cloudsplitter in about a 1/4 mile. When you approach the summit be very careful.
