Roc Trip Questions

Post by Atl »

I am new to rock climbing, and I really want to learn about it. Is the Roc Trip event worth attending for newbies? Thanks.

When you have the best rock climbers in the world coming and with some of them giving clinics I can't imagine that there wouldn't be something for every climber to learn regardless of ability. For a beginner the free Petzl Gri-Gri clinic should be of great interest and Arno's Warriors Way clinic would also be good.

did you get a chance to particpate in the UClimb clinic recently hosted at the Red? If not, you may be able to go to one of their events in the future. they are specifically geared towards very beginning climbers. my understanding is the rock trip clinics are teaching climbing technique rather than the fundamentals of climbing.

Well I missed the uclimb event. I learned about it the same weekend that it occurred. I am not willing to wait a year for another one, so I signed up for the beginner sport climbing clinic at Roctrip. I have a ten year background in military air assault and rope rescue with the fire service, so all of the knots, belaying, and rappelling I am familiar with, it is the climbing aspect where I lack knowledge. I welcome any training I can get, however, but I feel I will just have to jump in and learn what I can where I can.

Not sure what level Ali and or Kevin are instructing, but instruct awesome clinics. Even though most people think they boulder most of the time, they are wicked smooth sport climbers. Wonderful people with great advise and attention. Good luck and have fun.
