I was hoping for you to say, park at the start of the approach. But this doesn't sound to bad either.

The shortcut trail is nice. You will only save maybe 5 minutes each way, not 30 minutes round trip. I think the only way to save 30 minutes is to park at the trail leading to the boneyard.
