The wal-martification of America continues. No climbing gym, one locally owned outdoor store?? Lexington is lame.

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

That's sad. I remember getting my first gear downtown and getting the latest routes to check out from Ed Pearsall. He was an amazingly energetic guy, perfect hands-on salesman.
Not to belittle anyone since, but the thought of climbing in KY was pretty new to most of us then and having a store with top end gear and staffed with real participants instead of clerks was cool. I hope everyone will consider checking out J & H before they're pushed aside.

Anyone remember the photos all taped together in sequence "ICE CLIMBING in KY!"?

We don't have winters anymore either. :(

i live in dayton where there are no good gear stores - i would hit there on the way back from the red whenever i needed something. such a shame.

That's sad. That was our favorite gear store in Lex and they always supported the climbing community. Way bummer... :(

No, 2.05 million in sales last year and they couldn't stay in business. Something is wrong there. Look at John's, he is a local merchant who is thriving. Oh well, J&H should do well.

I know Gall's had a few climbers working for him, but I always thought they were pretty lame regarding their approach to the climbing scene.
