Has anybody else heard she quit climbing and is focusing on pole vaulting? Good for her if that's what she wants to do. She seems to be exceptional at whatever she does. That's just crazy, is all.

I was about that age when I got into pole vaulting. Never thought about a career in it though.

I just saw her out in SLC in January. No mention about not climbing anymore. But then again it is April now.

Spring track season may have won out over spring climbing season. Pole Vaulting (track and field style, not Johnny style) is way cool and now that they let women compete more power to her. Last time I checked major college and universities gave track and field scholarships....don't know how many award climbing scholarships (which is a whole other rant I'll save for another day). Whatever floats her boat is all good.

Art,

Tori had a pretty lengthy interview with Climbing a couple of years back. It went on to describe her as a climber as well as an athlete... but in particular, a pole vaulter. Her Freshman year in highschool she set her eyes on getting the IHSAA Girls Pole Vaulting state record. I imagine that is why she has "taken a break" from climbing while during track season. I imagine you could find her, and talk to her at the IHSSA Track & Field State Finals this year in Indy.

This is only temporary, a leave of absence, she did not quit. From what I hear, her dad drills her on pole vaulting as much as he does climbing.

Cheers!
Andy

She has not quit climbing. She is focusing on the pole vaulting now and only focuses on the climbing when there is some real competition. She has got to be getting tired of beating the same kids in th USCCA comps.
