I'm sick of the news

OK, I get it. A bridge fell down. People died. That's too bad.

BUT SERIOUSLY - WTF is up with every stupid news station? I flipped on the TV yesterday while I was getting ready for work and they're playing music from Apocolypse Now, going on and on about how awful a tragedy it is. This morning, I flip on the news, same damn scene, and they actually said something to the tune of "all this steel and debris on the ground -- it's like ground zero here." PLEASE. STOP. One bridge collapsing that killed maybe 20-30 people, compared to the World Trade Centers?? I hate the news.

well said dhoyne......don't worry it is only temporary until nicole, paris, or brittany come into the light.

Or until some dude murders his about-to-deliver wife, which seems to be a bi-monthly occurence.

Is that pay-per-view?

The problem is with all the news outlets now (over the air, cable, internet, print) you've got to fill time and space with something. In tv I refer to it as 'covering black'.

lately i've been in the habit of watching the Today show in NBC in the morning while I eat breakfast. This morning I had to change the channel because they were interviewing the surviving family of a women that was killed. It's enough to make you sick. We are a sick and disturbed society.

There was an NPR report about a month ago about our aged infrastructure in this country (bridges and roadways) and how it needs addressed. Naw, lets just keep building new housing and live vicariously through Paris Hilton.

Not quite. Nothing sells like death and destruction of people we can relate to in situations we can relate to. How many Iraqi's are killed every day in sectarian violence? How much coverage does that get?
