I'm no gold medallion member or anything but I do fly quite a bit. Have any other frequent flyers noticed a downhill turn in the airlines lately? I've been delayed for more than 2 hours on probably about 60% of my flights this year. I don't feel like it was like this a couple of years ago. Are things getting worse? And it's not just Delta, or any single airport. It's all airports and all carriers.

Oh, and today it is 4 hours. I am so fucking pissed off I feel like murdering someone. fuck shit damn shit god piss fuck shit damn damn shit fuck shit 4 hours 4 hours i just want to get home.
Why the delay today? Well, let's see, last month I got to the end of the runway and we had to turn around, deplane, and switch planes. Okay, someone forgot to do their job obviously. Today, well, we got to the end of the runway, turned around, went back to the gate while three air cops jumped on board and hauled someone away in handcuffs. Nice. So someone forgot to do their job and not screen this guy before they let him on the plane.
Is it a logistics problem? Is it an overbooking problem? Or are people just forgetting to do their jobs or not doing them well enough or fast enough? Any airline workers or pilots care to input? Are things getting worse? I'm pissed.

until recently, I was flying all the damn time. And yeah, lots and lots of delays. No airline or airport is immune anymore. I've slept on a lot of airport floors. Travel blows so hard now. I miss the days when planes were half full and I could cruise into the airport 15 minutes before take-off and they'd rush me through security so the plane would be on time.
The 2 big problems: security and over booking. Both are the reality of travel now.
One thing that is key in these days of massive over-bookage: check in on-line as soon as the airline allows (typically anytime within the 24 hours before your flight). That way you won't get bumped unless you are not at the actual gate when they start boarding. And just suck it up and check your bag. All the assholes who insist on carrying on their overnight bags are making security a nightmare for the rest of us. Just fucking check it.

You mean Dave doesn't let you use Wolverine's private jet? I'd be pissed.

It all evens out from a smiley happiness perspective. Coming back from Florida I was delayed due to a storm in Atlanta. I hadn't chosen a seat before hand and got bumped up to business class on the second leg of my flight out of ATL. After I got in my nice cushy seat there was some other delay from a clean-up crew. The guy in the seat next to me said he wouldn't have made the flight if there hadn't been the clean-up delay. Then because of all of the delays they gave everyone in business class double the free alcohol

I tried to get to Buffalo last month. Made it as far as Chicago, where the plane I was supposed to get on got hit by lightning. After a long stay in Chicago, I gave up and flew back to Indy -- I couldn't get to Buffalo for a day and a half because there were no other flights.

Did louisville to dallas to seattle recently with same return, it was on time and a sterling experience, airports are great for people watching but the food can be so so.

Yeah, most of the flights I've been on this year have been delayed.
Coming back from Chicago the other month, David's flight into Cincy got cancelled, and he had to fly into Lex and rent a car to get back home in time for work the next day. Shitty.
