Hey,
a friend of mine just told me he had heard that someone had just fallen 50ft at the Red and has been airlifted. It could have been a climber or a hiker, he wasn't sure.
Has anyone heard anything about this?

Here's the story from the AP:

Two men flown out of Gorge after fall
The Associated Press

WINCHESTER, Ky. --The Wolfe County and Powell County rescue squads have recovered two men who fell some 50 feet from a cliff in the Red River Gorge.

The injured men were flown by helicopter late this morning to receive hospital treatment for their injuries. Their names and conditions have not been released by authorities.

Television reports say the two and one other man were hiking in the Rockbridge area of the Gorge. The Powell County Rescue Squad was also on the scene.

Yep another climbing accident...at least that's how it'll go down in the "books".

I hope they are going to be ok and I hope they were not from Ohio.

yup, 2 guys down late last night. jake, kim, chris, jordan and myself were first on the scene with a wolf county emt around 7am. they were close to the rock bridge area and were out hiking after dark. one guy walked off a cliff and the other guy was trying to assist and fell. the third guy walked out and drove to true north and they initiated the call. one guy has a very badly broken leg, almost sticking out and possibly broken ribs and shoulder. the other guy had a very badly broken arm, bones sticking out in two places, leg puncture and other smaller injuries. things moved as fast and efficient as you could ask for but the bushwhack, carry and haul were hell. later in the rescue about 20 vol from local search and rescue and 2 unknown climbers showed and gave it their all. the hurt guys seemed to be in good spirits and very thankfull.

what a way to start the day......
