google maps of gorge crags

Post by Boyd »

I've been playing around with google maps, and while this might have been accomplished, I thought I'd try a map that links the online guidebook to geo coordinates. I remember someone here posted (paul3b?) an .xls file of crags and guidebook url....well I mashed it up. What's potentially nice is adding photos and rss feeds to the pop-up boxes. Also varying the symbols based on some criteria would be helpful.

i always like to see google maps used for this kind of stuff. there is a map put together with a few cool features on the rrgcc site. click on "pmrp info>maps".

there are a few things buggy with the top toolbar and i haven't been able to add some features i really need to get to.. but it's cool. i'm also going to be hosting the map on my own site a little later.. i'll let you know if i add any cool features, like 2004 1-meter color imagery.

not really one yet.. just slightly separated by region.

that's on the "to-do" list of things to improve/fix ;)

That's bad ass Paul! I figured someone had already created a map. How did you manage the tri-pane pop-up? I'm using cvs2map .pl script to generate the xml. I'd say your using some form of google earth/kml conversion.

This is my first foray into mashups and obviously it's exciting. Id like to make icons indicating level of use. Sort out the crags based on spray to show the legendary walls or perhaps rank by difficulty.

Photos are a given. If they were maintained by gallery, they could be fed as a random slideshow...but then why do you need a map to look at slideshow?

Anyway...cool map....I'll look at your java and see what I can learn.

**note..Tower Rock crag is misplaced I believe.
