Censorship

It has come to my attention that someone's posts are being edited by someone else without that person taking credit. I think that's kind of fucked up, even if I disagree vehemently and with disgust to everything written by the person being edited.

It's a privately owned and operated forum. The owner has the right to ban people or delete posts. But it would appear that someone (an agent of the owner, let's say, as I doubt Ray is that big of a dick) feels he or she can come in and twist this person's words around or just completely re-write them without acknowledgement. The only way this could be fair would be if the censoree could do the same in turn.

One of the reasons I visit this forum so rarely is the pissy attitude of some of the moderators who believe the world is theirs to shit on. The only reason I check in is that many people I consider my friends do post here and I like arguing with Day, Piggie, et. al. Ray, would you please lay out some rules of behavior for your moderators?

Thanks,
Alan Evil

Are you sure you aren't just seeing the effect of word filters? Usually that's what it is. Also, some people play the old "Hit the quote button and modify the quoted text" trick but that doesn't alter the words in the original post.

Oh, I do know of one person that has had their words modified recently.

Do you keep word filters in effect for over a week?

The author in question sent me a PM about his/her posts being changed. I went back to look at some threads in which we had exchanges and the posts had been radically altered to the point where they didn't make much sense. I just went and checked two of them and they remain so. I was informed of this a week ago and waited to make sure it wasn't something like freaky Friday.

(p.s. I don't think you're a dick. It just seemed funnier if I said I doubt you're that big a dick. You see, someone's being a dick and it's not you but obviously with your awesome climbing log you must have the biggest dick around here...)

Oops, simul-posting.

It just seems to me that if someone's posts are being altered without their permission or knowledge then the person doing the editing should post a little "edited by" or not do it. It's beyond unfair, it's un-American. If you (and by "you" I mean "whoever is editing posts") really don't want to hear what he/she has to say, ban them from posting.

Sometimes when a person is enough of an ass to enough people, strange things will happen to thier posts, I wish I could claim to be responsable for all of them, but let's just say it was a team effort.

And Alan, if you think I am an ass just come out and say it, rather then trying to sugar coat it. Personally, I could give a fuck what you or what most people think of me. I hope you don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out, but it is much nicer without you or zdickhead around.

So why not just come out and call them an ass? Why take the time and effort to go back and edit posts? Sounds like someone has too much time on their hands.
