Helmets

Post by Steve B »

Can anyone tell me if there is any functional difference between a whitewater helmet and a rock climbing helmet?
Thanks

Ones for water rocks the other is for mountain rocks.. :P

The only thing I notice is how much more skull most white water helmets cover. But thats just a observation.

as a owner of both these are my thoughts: ww helmets are made to take impact and be resilient (ie be able to take multiple hits), like a BMX or skate helmet. the foam should absorb a good chunk of the load. climbing helmets generally are design to deflect a falling object so while they do have some foam usually it is a lot less. they are more like a hard hat really. climbing helmets are also going to have much better venting than a paddling helmet, partially b/c paddling helmets are made to get wet so venting isn't going to provide all the cooling. hope that helps.
