The last three days saw over 460 visitors to Muir Valley -- A lot of very nice folks. But, the human impact at the cliffs and on the trails is almost overwhelming. To avoid the eco problems found at other RRG climbing areas, from here forward, we must limit climbing to the number of cars that can fill our 40-car parking lot (which we allowed to overflow Saturday to almost 70 cars total.) If you cannot find a parking space, please don't create one adjacent to the main lot. Read a full lot as "no vacancy at this time." Try one of the other great venues around the area, such as the PMRP.

To ensure that all 40 spaces are used, please:
1. Pull all the way up to the wood curbs.
2. Park close to the cars on either side. One of the bigger problems is created by cars parked with 3/4 of a spot between them and others.
3. Do not park on the neighbors' property. (This is Eastern Kentucky! Not responsible for bullet holes.)
4. Do not park off the graveled parking lot.
5. Please do not block the door to the MV Maintenance Building at the parking lot.

Also, we need to put persons who bring dogs to the Valley on notice. One fourth of you follow the leash rule and have well-behaved dogs. The other three fourths are providing good cause for a no-dog rule being put into effect at MV. After a couple particularly nasty incidents this past weekend, our thread is being pulled pretty taut. We have neither the time or desire to doggy patrol and police 400 acres. Dog owner visitors to MV are encouraged to fix this problem or we may have to put a no dog rule in effect.

Save climbing. Kill a dog. Leash it or lose it chumps.

I can see in a couple of years, due to the lack of respect, just like Torrrent falls, Muir will close..

Every person I ran into witha dog at Muir this weekend was leash less.

I know some will hate this topic, but how do we as climbers police ourselves better with respect to bringing our canine companions a 'craggin?

But, to their credit, they did put their dogs on leashes once they were told about the leash law.

Thats only because you were very threatening. I was even afraid and I didn't have a dog.


Just kidding. I think Yasmeen needs to put on a clinic on how to ask people to follow rules. She was very polite, and to the point. Not only that but people didn't even seem offended and actually talked to us a lot after the scolding. Very effective.

But what you don't know is that I recently helped to arm Yasmeen.
If the talk does'nt work, she has fangs!

Here is how my weekend went.

Andrew: "Hey yasmeen nice onsite on that 5.9"
Andrew on his onsight attempt: "How the hell did you do this Yasmeen, take!"
Andrew: "God I suck at life"
Yasmeen: "Hey since I have hung the draws on everything why don't you hang this route?"
Andrew: "i guess"
Andrew struggling before the crux: "Shut those dogs up, there ruining my onsight on this 10a." "God dang its hot", "My feet hurt", " I wanna go home".

Anyway, I constantly heard screaching dogs all day at the crag, it sounded like someone was running some sort of dog fighting tournament in muir valley.
