Don't have time to exercise with your kids, give them Adderall. I have no problem with a doctor giving stimulant medication to a kid who eats healthy and works out but still can't lose weight. How bad is it when even doctors won't tell parents they are bad for overfeeding their kids and not exercising with them?

It is sick and I am disgusted by it as well. Also, I know plenty of college students who have somehow convinced doctors to prescribe this drug to them.... and have lost a ton of weight on them. It is a very dangerous game that people are playing. Why is it that no one pays attention or wants to address the long term damage that these practices can have on a person???

Before further bashing, you might want to read this: http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/fu ... 7/683?etoc. Off-label use of drugs is common and is legal under certain conditions. However, drug companies pushing off-label uses is another story.

can't access the article..... but I am not buying it in the case of Adderall. It is an amphetamine, and seems to me that it could be detrimental to a child's heart.

Coincidentally, just a couple hours before you posted this, we were having lunch in the park by the river and about 100 schoolkids poured into the park on a field trip. We realized that the childhood obesity rate really is as high as "they" say it is. I haven't seen that many kids in one place in awhile, but honestly, out of this group, about 70% looked overweight. We did notice that most of them had brought stuff like chips and pop as part of their lunches. I'm pretty sure my mom never let me pack pop for lunch at that age. Anyway.
