Do you think?????

Post by anticlmber »

In today's technological whirlwind, do you feel that we as humans have:

a) evolved through the aid of that technology
b) made life easier
c) made life more stressful and retarded our growth to the mongoloid level
d) "I'm so happy, please shoot me in the face"

In my observations it seems as if people are doing more without stimulation of the mind. People talking on the phone instead of interacting with those around them. Text messaging while in class. Not being able to memorize simple information because they have it stored in a palm pilot/phone/computer. Just curious where do you see society going? In whole or in parts.

Assuming that intelligence is at least partially linked to genetics and that intelligent people seek more education (pretty reasonable assumptions I think), we are getting dumber as a population. Hard to swallow?

Studies consistently show that people with more education get married later and have fewer children; people with less education get married earlier and have more children. If there is such a thing as “smart genesâ€

I think darwin was right, but all the inteligent people have adapted our surroundings to us instead of the other way around, therefore it will be a long time before we evolve any further.

Anticlimber, "please shoot me in the face" Actually, I think technology has made life easier, but when you solve one problem another is bound to pop up, otherwise we will create problems. I think we are the same dumb human beings that have been around for the past 2000 years, only we created new sets of problems. And yes, people these days have grown up without having to focus on anything, in fact I would say that all these little gadgets and things are nothing but a distraction from thinking, thinking about life, about others, about anything that does not fit their sheltered view of the world.
Another thing that pisses me off are all the psycologic drugs that are prescribed, I understand that in some situations they are needed but they stunt creativity, do you think Van Gogh would have helped to pioneer expressionism had there been anti-depressents around. I don't think so. Depressed people come up with some cool shit.

by the way, you're wrong anyway because by that argument there is still going to be a steady increase in the number of smart people, though they'll constitute a smaller percentage of the population.

Let me go ahead and guess that you've got 3 kids and a bun in the oven. ;-)

In my fantasy there are no children born at all every other year and in the years when children are conceived it's 1/1000th of what it is now until the population gets down to around what it was 500 years ago and it turns out it was some aliens that like this planet and us but understand (unlike us) that there are just WAY TOO FUCKING MANY OF US.

If every couple would only have two kids the population would decrease
