flesh wounds

Post by ynot »

I was working a little to close to the blades and they took a hunk out of the tip of my index finger. It took all night to quit bleeding and all day it's been seeping. Shouldn't it be healing over by now? I been using neosporin 2 or three times a day and it doesn't hurt as bad now. doesn't look infected. When does the seeping stop?

did you try to put the hund back on? either way you got a lot of flesh to repair, I wouldnt worry till tomorow, but if its still seeping, it may be infected in wich case some warm water and baking soda should do the trick

I took a hunk out of my middle finder with a table saw and it took weeks to heal. Days to finally quit weeping. The problem is that the wound is generally traumatic (i.e. tearing versus cutting). The other problem is that the structure of the finger tip is kinda like little columns of stuff growing from the underlying tissue. It has to heal from the inside out.

I ended up with a slight scar and a bit of sensitivity otherwise all is well.

However that being said, a quick trip to the doctor won't hurt and might speed recovery.

Got my finger with a dremel a month ago. Misery loves company. Pretty much healed now. It took a couple days for the seeping to quite. Neosporin doest the trick to keep the infection out.

I took the pads off my index and middle finger. Went to the wound care nurse at the hospital and she told me a lot of great stuff. First of all I don't know how much you took off but to promote the healing...
1. Keep it warm. Extremeties like fingers don't get good blood flow to heal it in the wintertime.
2. Bandaid coverage helps to protect it and keep the dirt out.
Change it daily. Clean it with water. Soap will tend to dry it out. Sterile saline from the pharmacy is a great thing. But clean water is ok.
3. The neosporin is great, not for the antiseptic properties so much but keeping the finger tissue around it supple and not so dryed out. Don't let it get dryed out.
4. Quit smoking.

The seeping may last a few days.

I cleaned all the gunk out of it last night and it was all nice and dry this morning.
Seems to get a bit better each day. Good advice everyone. I kinda miss my typing finger.I was lucky we had some giant bandaids laying around. They are choice for wraping it up.
