Veteran Climber Howard Doyle Dies
Howard Doyle, long time climber and first ascentionist, died last week in his Utah home of an apparent heart attack. Anyone who has thumbed through the Seneca Rocks guidebook will see his name on numerous first ascents from the 1970s, many of which, like the beautiful "Drop Zone" remain classic and serious to this day. For memories from Howard's friends, check this thread at Supertopo:

Howard is remembered as a true gentleman hardman: PHd educated, big, strong, funny, and whose calm nature flowed to the people around him. A long time Maryland local, he moved to Utah 8 years ago.
There will be a memorial on Sunday, Dec. 3 at Norman Dean Funeral Home, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834-2114. Call (973) 627-1880 or visit www.normandean.com for more information. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Dec. 4 at 9AM, for a 10AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Marys Church in Denville.
