Todd Skinner was killed yesterday working to free the Leaning Tower in Yosemite.

Sadness, confirmed by a Yosemite ranger.
Saw a slide show He and Paul P. did in Lander a couple years ago. Very, very cool. Those two did all kinds of climbing, and even if they were pretty controversial with some of the things they did (bolting in Hueco, and power drills in the valley), they left a huge mark on the climbing world.

I first met Todd at Vedauwoo about 1980 or so. We were up from Fort Collins for the day. The fall weather was glorious, and we'd had a wonderful day of climbing when Todd walked up to greet us. He had this huge grin on his face, looked like he couldn't have been over 19 or so, and was going out of his way to make the out-of-towners feel welcome. That's the way I'll always remember him.
