I have a few days in december for a road trip--where is a good climbing destination? Red Rocks? Hueco Tanks? Mt. lemon/cochise stronghold?

hueco is never full...just be early at the gate, and you can get in. or sign up for a guide at the rock ranch..you'll always get in that way.

Bad beta. The park does get full, and you will get stuck at the gate, people even sleep in thier cars at the gate to get a spot. If you stay in the park, then you can get in line as early as you want - the people inside are in line before the ones outside the gate. If you don't have reservations, and only a few days, I would probably go somewhere else, or be sure to stay in the park, even though it costs more.

Oh, and the guided trips are not always reliable as a back up plan.

rhunt, Not closed, and it is an outstanding area. But there is a bit of red tape. To me, unless you have reservations, or at least a couple weeks there, it isn't the best place to be. However, the bouldering there is out of this world good, so it is worth the trouble.

Bishop is also a nice winter area, less rules, more choss. Bishop also wins the better place to hang out on rest days award, as El Paso is Choss.

If you only have a few days, might be better to just hang out in the SE.
