I'm thinking climbing could be considered adventure tourism, at least if you're out off-widthing with ynot. So I'm thinking the RRGCC and climbers visiting the Red could benifit from this initiative.

Adventure Tourism Initiative = Money for Climbers ?

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
I actually gave a presentation at the ARC conference today. A lot of officials were curious about climbing, mountain biking and the area after we had the conference. I think KY may be changing its outlook on outdoor users and what they can do for areas of rural KY that need the help. As I find out more working with the ARC I will keep you posted.

Way to go RRO! Thanks for all your time and effort on this and other grant, pr, and local activist type stuff. This is the kind of 'lobby' work that will get climbers recognized as a legit user group (of course we already are, but we have to continually remind and educate).
I hope this kind of work will open up new lands for us to recreate on. Anyone notice the ad in Nat Geo Adventurer? The latest issue had an ad for KY St Parks. The picture in the ad...a climber. Last time I checked rock climbing wasn't leagal on KY St Park land. If the state can use climbing to advertise it's parks why can't we climb at the parks?

that was touched on a few times today. not as a huge portion of the presentation but was def brought up more than once and had a few people sticking around after the speach to ask why. we shall see where it goes. other climbers on this board started on a project a few years ago working with state parks. this may be the time to get organized as a group and really go after it. all they can do is say no........

Nows the time to do it. Before they get cozy in their newly elected postion, and spend their time making the big money happy.RRO wrote:that was touched on a few times today. not as a huge portion of the presentation but was def brought up more than once and had a few people sticking around after the speach to ask why. we shall see where it goes. other climbers on this board started on a project a few years ago working with state parks. this may be the time to get organized as a group and really go after it. all they can do is say no........
