So smart asses, I appreciate all the helpful feedback, but surprise surprise some of us like to stay in shape during the week, have jobs, families, responsibilities, etc.
Driving an hour to the red several times a week just isn't in the cards right now. Granted, if I could climb on real rock several days a week, I would love to. Hell, I would be psyched if my schedule let me climb every single weekend. Those days have passed me by (I am certainly sorry to say . . . taking advantage of it for those of you that still can).
I figured it was implicit that ones' preference is for real rock.
Just thought I would ask the question since I am new to town. . .didn't realize I would get such obnoxious responses (though I did like the holding down the couch response).

welcome to rrc.com , grow a lil tougher skin and try not to put down the people your asking questions to or you wont last long on here
other than that man. get a hang board and use it regularly, build a small 8*8 system board, get a gym membership and work out till you puke. many ways to stay in shape in town. buy a bike and ride, lexington has great road loops. you can kiss up to the few people who own a nice woodie in town and work into their training groups. no real rock in lexington, the drive to the red is less than an hour and you can usually find someone to car pool with.
oh yeah, thanks for the compliment

A good start to get into a local woodie would to not call your neighbors smart asses.

I always liked words that have double ss's I'm sure some are not so innoculous but most seem refeshingly disarming

Kind of like the ASS rule in geometry? The teachers always taught it as SSA, though. Clever.

He's right. Most of us are a bunch of smart asses. In person most are very nice and I enjoy their company. On this board however, very little mercy is shown to anyone. Even serious, intelligent conversations get "smart assed" all over and people get crucified for having an intelligent thought.
So, remember being new to the area? How 'bout being the "open, friendly climbing community" we claim to be instead of showing newbies to the area that they really are't part of "the gang".
Unfortunately the Johnson Center is all we have in the area as far as a "climbing gym" right now unless you build your own. It doesn't keep my interest for long either. Fortunately you're a student and don't have to find a student to take you like I do. Fortunately my husband is a student and a climber...so it works.
Don't pay too much attention to the shit on this board. It runs rampant and everyone gets it some time or another. You're really not being singled out.
Watch, I'll get crucified in not time for this post...good thing I don't really care!

Welcome to the Board! Although we are a big family here, it takes a bit to get used to.
If you want, I can give you your mom's number, she may care about your hurt feelers a bit more than the rest of us.
more silly blather

alright alright. . .no need to get all crazy folks. I was just asking a question. I will go ask my mom to wipe up my tears and let you all get back to your workday. I hope the comment broke up the friday afternoon tedium.
The biking and the gym have been working pretty well, but I miss going to the climbing gym. Thanks for all the responses, both helpful and ummm .. entertaining.
Have a great weekend.

Also, there are 2 really nice gyms up in Cincy.. if you're willing to do a 3 hour round-trip for a climbing gym.
