We've all lost a champion of the Red. While I didn't know Kris Snyer personaly, I was fortunate enough to see her actions. I remember meeting Kris when the RRGCC was first getting started back in 1996, several Saturdays building trails to various crags, and the time she flew back from Alaska to be at the signing of the MOU with the Forest Service. I'll never forget her going out on that cool February day so we could shoot a story about the FS/Coalition MOU. Her actions spoke volumes as to her love of the Red. Thoughts, prayers, and positive vibes to her family and friends.

It's a terrible thing to loose someone so good as a person. I only met Kris once but I will always remember her. My heart goes out to her family.

That's so sad...
Alaska is a beautiful but strange place. I spent a year up there and suicides are freakily common in the winter; 24 hours of darkness and extreme cold combined with lonliness are a fatal mix. It does weird things to the brain. Hopefully she's just hiding out in the woods like the trooper suggests. That's common up there too.

Wherever she may be, I hope Kris' friends and family will get closure of some kind soon. The not knowing must be so awful. My heart goes out to her and everyone who loves her.
I love this song by Bruce Cockburn. It speaks to me about life - about how life can get sometimes.
Sunset is an angel weeping
Holding out a bloody sword
No matter how I squint I cannot
Make out what it's pointing toward
Sometimes you feel like you live too long
Days drip slowly on the page
You catch yourself
Pacing the cage
I've proven who I am so many times
The magnetic strip's worn thin
And each time I was someone else
And every one was taken in
Powers chatter in high places
Stir up eddies in the dust of rage
Set me to pacing the cage
I never knew what you all wanted
So I gave you everything
All that I could pillage
All the spells that I could sing
It's as if the thing were written
In the constitution of the age
Sooner or later you'll wind up
Pacing the cage
Sometimes the best map will not guide you
You can't see what's round the bend
Sometimes the road leads through dark places
Sometimes the darkness is your friend
Today these eyes scan bleached-out land
For the coming of the outbound stage
Pacing the cage
Pacing the cage
I don't know about you all, but I find myself 'pacing the cage' sometimes so Kris' situation doesn't shock me but it does sadden me. She is someone who sounds like she loved life and the outdoors. If she is hiding in the woods, I hope the beauty will speak to her and that she will come back and find the good stuff in life again.
I'm off to find it myself in Joshua Tree. Take care everyone. Don't forget to tell the people you love how important they are to you.
