Hi, I will be coming through the red river gorge on a corss country journey and was wondering if there is only sport and trad climbing or if there are toproping spots at the gorge? which spots are best for toproping so as not to piss off sport or trad climbers? thanks for your help!

All the climbs can pretty much be top roped but you will need to lead them and top rope on your own gear to help with anchor wear and tear. The problem is getting to the top tio set up an anchor. That can be very hard to do in most places. Auxier Ridge area has some good climbing and the top can be reached easily. A few places like Fortress you can lead one climb and have access to the top.

Hire RRO to take you out for the day.

Very little in the way of toproping unless you have at least one lead climber in the bunch. If you've got a lead climber, pretty much anyplace is good. Ditto RRO on Auxier. Also, Princess Arch has a half-dozen or so climbs in the 5.6 to 5.10d range (mostly crack climbs) that you can set up for top rope without lead climbing.

I have to ask, are you coming clear across the country to only top rope. If so do not go to the gorge. Now if you are a sport guru then come on down. there are some amazing cracks here as well.

FriendlyMon, Probably better off to spend an extra day at the new,, much better TR'ing there. Or maybe skip the red and try So Ill? That said, you can tr some routes in the red, just not very many. Torrent has a few (around rest assured).

Dude, what you want to toprope for? There are a lot of good gyms that offer toprope climbing.

You people just don't know where the good top roping is. There are tons of great top ropable routes of all grades.
