Any suggestions for a climbing destination in early July? Trad, sport, bouldering, anything. Ideally, not humid and driveable in under 12 hours (from the Red). Basically I'd like to get some more diversity in my climbing so am looking for places you all like to go to in the summer. Thanks.

There are shaded places at the Obed that might be good in the summer. Ho could give you more insight on that. Also, Summersville Lake at the New, since you can jump into the river and water boulder when you get too hot.

12 hours isn't really enough to get away from the heat and humidity in the summer. buy tickets or drive a little further and go to squamish or colorado or wyoming. The front range in Colorado has a ton of diversity in terms of different types of climbing areas and was 14-16 hours driving from chicago if you went full bore!!!!

If you're looking for variety, then the area around Boulder, CO is it. Sport-Trad-Bouldering, Limestone-Granite-Sandstone-Basalt-Whatever

If you aren't up for the drive to Colorado, then Canada is what you're looking for. Lion's Head is spectacular and much, much cooler than anywhere else you can drive to from Louisville in under 12 hrs.

Here's a thread on Lion's Head:

And if you go for the rap in/hanging belay/lead out deal, it's really fun (and a bit scary!)

It's hard to tell from that photo, but those trees are 100-200 feet below the belayer!
