Any of you all heading to the new this weekend? I have been here since Tuesday, and while the weather has not been great, the climbing has been killer. Super fun techy face climbing, along with a very fun finger crack so far. Off to summersville today for my fourth day in a row of climbing, two more (at least) to go. Lot's of cool kids around, so if you don't have plans for the weekend yet, come on over.

Hey Wes,
We were planning on coming up for the weekend, but are having second thoughts because of the weather. I've been disappointed more than once by everything being too wet when you wouldn't think it would be up there. How does it look this morning? Have you been down to Endless or Beauty?

Don, Everything has been dry so far, or at least mostly dry. Went to endless day before yesterday and did muckracker and got on leave it to Jesus, all were dry. Rained a bit this morning, but clearing up now. Also spent two days at Kaymoor, and that was pretty much dry as well.
Let me know if you are coming, would be cool to meet up with you all.
Wes

decided at the last minute today that, since my partners bailed on me for the Red, i'll go to the Rendevous. leaving soon... driving solo... lots 'o caffiene. should've left last night at midnight, really.
Wes, any space left in your clinic? i'd take it
anyone want a ride? i'll probably have room for 2-3 passengers. planned travel is Chicago -> Indy (+3hr) -> Cinci (+1.5hr...Fri rush hour?) -> Lex (+1.5hr) -> 64E -> 77S -> Rt19N. that could be modified to Cinci -> Lex -> 64E if i've a reason. I'll PM Wes my cell number. call me accordingly.

Mike - a guy I know who's from WV and lives around Chicago (he drives back and forth for family stuff all the time) strongly recomends taking the "AA Highway" (KY Route 9) from Cin. to where it hits I-64 outside of Huntington, WV. I haven't tried it, but he says it's by far the fastest way. Also, Illinois I-Pass will work on the WV toll system!
While you're there, check out Pies and Pints (or is it Pints and Pies?) in Fayetteville. (If the owner hears that you're from Chicago, she'll try to get you to say that it's the best pizza you've ever had.) It isn't the 'best pizza ever', but it's really good food - a little pricey for climbing-trip-grub, but I thought is was well worth it!
Oh, yeah - don't speed! The towns/counties around the New are total speed traps - the counties build millions of dollars of speeding ticket revenue into their budget projections! Watch the speed limit signs - there are roads that look like two lane, divided highways, but the limit drops from 55 or 65 down to 25 or so around the towns at random.

yeah, that's what a buddy of mine said on the phone this morning. i'll probably end up taking that (it was in the list above before revising...thus the "modified to go through Lex route." figured that if anyone in Lex wants a ride, i could swing down that way.tomdarch wrote:Mike - a guy I know who's from WV and lives around Chicago (he drives back and forth for family stuff all the time) strongly recomends taking the "AA Highway" (KY Route 9) from Cin. to where it hits I-64 outside of Huntington, WV. yep, been there! have a "Get Some" shirt--which drew really flirtatious remarks from the ticketing agent ladies when flying back home from DCA.While you're there, check out Pies and Pints (or is it Pints and Pies?) in Fayetteville. yeah, i learned that a harder way. same trip as mentioned above a buddy and i went from DC to the New in his rental car (State Dept. Foreign Service Officer). clear night, dry pavement, new rental car, haven't seen another car in over an hour. going 57 in a 45 and he got tagged. no fine, do not pass go, go straight to "court date."Oh, yeah - don't speed! took some time and a lot of effort, but he got the ticket thrown out. which is a good thing since he never showed up to court...had been shipped out to the US Embassy in Tokyo for a tour.
