Shock collar
Shock collar
Hey, anyone out there have any experience with using a shock collar to help a dog get over his barking issues? Maybe have one that you are not using I could borrow/buy kinda cheap? I have a dog who barks. Alot. I have been putting a muzzle on him, and try to keep him kinda out of the way while climbing, but that doesn't always work so well. I know some people might think it is kinda cruel, but if it keeps up, I will have to start thinking about not bringing him out, and that would be much worse, as he and his brother love to get out, maybe even more then me.

I don't know anything about shock collars but I have successfully handled barking with reward training. This is something he finds completely natural though,as opposed to performing (as in SIT/STAY ), so it is important he realizes not doing it can be beneficial. I'm sure you have done this with him, it just may require more than usual a focused and consistant go. Give 'it', it's own command such as Quiet!, he may have too many definitions of NO accumulating in his head and during the praise/reward bit of the training the command follows the compliance. He's barking-distract him-praise and treat-QUITE!.
But then I realize some pups will have none of it! good luck

My best friend used a shock collar to keep her bishon frische from barking. It really worked until the other dog figured out that if he barked, she got shocked. He'd get pissed at her and run over to the collar and bark. But that's an unusual case.
Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.
