it is time to resling my hexes. was there ever a consensus on what the best type of cordage is. i sort of recall people bagging on spectra and gemini and saying good ole nylon was best.

and the triple fisherman is the standard knot for tying the cord right??

You're on the right track. Use Spectra or Gemini cord and tie with a tripple fisherman. Now you're making me feel guilty about neglecting my hex cordage, that stuff is still good after six years right?

Search the old ClimbKentucky archives. I know we discussed it on there.

Here's a page explaining, in great detail (with pictures!) how to sling hexes using 5mm Maxim Tech Cord:

http://www.savasyn.net/weekend/Climb/ho ... /hexes.htm

I suppose the procedure would be the same with other cordage? If the hexes are drilled for 5.5mm spectra, is it still okay to use 5mm Gemini?

I was told that Spectra was the best. Is this bad beta or what?

It's mostly a matter of opinion. Search the web for a test done by Craig Leubben, Chris Harmstron, et. al I think there is a copy of it on the AMGA site right now. I have a copy of it somewhere, too if you can't find it on the web. You will find that each material has it's strengths and weaknesses. There is no right or wrong answer here.
