take your job interview and shove it

Post by haas »

So now is the season for getting a teaching job. All the current teachers have to say whether or not they will be back next year and there's the mad race to fill any missing positions.

I teach special education. There isn't an area in education that comes anywhere close as special ed. in terms of demand. I don't ask for a job, I ask why I should work for that school. I went to a teaching fair and I took my name tag off because I was tired of people shoving teaching contracts at me. It sounds arogent I know, but it really is true. I literally could pick where I wanted to teach in the state and I finally settled on a really cool program. The director for the district drove me around to all the schools in the district and I chose the school that fit my style the best. I signed a contract at the end of the day, filled out all the paper work, and said I'll see you in August. That was three weeks ago. I got a call yesterday from the director saying that because of some technicality and beurocratic bullshit I need to reinterview with the school because they posted the position within the school district but didn't mention what school it was at. No one has showed interest in my new job. Then why the fuck do I have to come back in to reinterview? They say it's a formality and it will be all the same people I've already met and that I have the job still. Then why waste my fucking time!? I'm thinking they can go fuck themselves and I'm choosing a new school district.

I'm suppose to have this all settled and leave for the Red this weekend! I don't have time for an interview, I need to pack. And that concludes this portion of my rant.

Or, possibly someone's brother's wife is interested in your position. A new school district may be wise. Good luck......and, climb safe!

Or they just overlooked some legal requirement and have to do this as a formality. Education laws are complicated and confusing and there are a lot of them. State employment laws also require compliance with many steps, and something might have been missed.
I'm an experienced woman; I've been around... well, alright, I might not've been around, but I've been... nearby.

Haas what state is this in. You should consider yourself lucky that you are a special ed teacher. The last teaching job I interviewed for in ohio they had 2000 resumes for the one position.

Consider yourself lucky to be considered. When I started teaching, a person was lucky to land any job. On top of that, I had to be willing to edit the yearbook, coach track and football, and chair the English Department.
I've had just about enough of this shit.

My wife interviewed in Frankfort in JANUARY and was told she had the job two weeks later. She still doesn't have a start date. Government is stupid sometimes and you just have to follow the crap they want.

I'm in Colorado and what makes me upset is not that I'm doing a second interview, it is the fact that I signed a contract for the position already. I'm now technically a district employee, so it's not like the job has to go to another teacher in the district over me if they wanted it. I'm more qualified, so the position would remain mine.

I've done the whole desperate job hunt when I was searching for a History Teacher job. I definetily know what it is like to have your application up against 1,000 other people and it is stressful. I found special ed to be a lot more enjoyable for me to teach anyways, and I knew going into my Masters program that I would be in high demand. When I was in such high demand that districts are pushing contracts at me, I don't want to deal with reinterviewing for a job I already have. Maybe I'll just teach in Stanton...

thanks, that kind of helps. I'm just impatient I guess. That and since I'm leaving for a month, I won't be able to come back and take care of anything.
