Closed Trad Lines
Closed Trad Lines
Should trad lines ever be "closed" as a personal project? Not trying to stir, just curious where the current consensus lies. BTW, how do we actually red tag a crack? just put red tape on a stick and wedge it in the crack?

it may come down to a communications issue but if someone cleaned and placed anchors it would good karma to give them a while to bag it, for instance: the line needed extensive cleaning and time to place anchors, bad weather/darkness whatever set the timetable back for the FA, give some time, if its a blank line that tops out and has had no effort involved climb it and go get a pizza
so crank..here is my personal dilemma...trad line that needs one bolt in the middle, but needs no anchors....will be at my personal limit on gear. if I think someone will come up and snake it after i put it the bolt, then i am reluctant to do so. there are many who could hike it, but for me it will take a few burns, and may involve months of time before I do those burns. i want to post a "no trespassing" sign at the base, but am thinking that would not uphold the pigsteak corollary of "don't be a wuss"..

It's amazing how contrived we can make things. Look at how much can go wrong; you tag it and can't send it before someone else sneaks in and steals your hard earned glory, you leave it till you know you can send it and someone comes in and does it before you, you tag it and take months to send making you the laughing stock of the climbing world. Funny part is that people who tag sport routes cannot be 100% sure some unethical person didn't sneak in and bag their route without telling anyone. Of course, if ignorance is bliss, does it really matter if someone else does your route but then keeps it a secret letting your name go in the history books?
The theory of evolution is just as stupid as the theories of gravity and electromagnetism.
well said saxman...i guess when route developing part of the intrigue is the entire process....from spotting the line, envisioning the moves, adding protection where necessary, and then linking it all up. if this process is intentionally interrupted by another, it takes some of the sheen away....
