has anyone ever had a tooth pulled (molar)? I have to have one removed next week and I'm flying to Joshua Tree a couple of days later. Is this going to suck?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled (actually two were impacted and had to be mined out in chunks) two or three days before a trip to Seneca. Never took a single pill and didn't have any trouble eating pizza, drinking beer or climbing. It is important for the first few days not to stain too hard until the blood clots toughen up. YMMV.

I've had 2 surgeries done on my teeth-- one was to extract a molar that was fused to the bone, and the other was to remove all 4 wisdom teeth. I got put under both times (it was actually really fun when I started waking up and feeling the effects... maybe I need to get out more...), and from what I remember the single molar extraction went without a problem... though the wisdom teeth were another story. You should be fine after a few days. Good luck!

I think whether or not you have any trouble is specific to the person. My body doesn't agree with anesthesia so for me it is quite an ordeal. When I had my four impacted wisdom teeth chisled out of my mouth I was in a lot of pain for at least a couple of days. But again, part of it is that I am very sensitive to anesthesia. By the way, I found that ibuprofen did better then any of the prescription pain relievers and with no side effects. I took about 600-800 mg every four hours.

I had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth surgically removed when I was 17, and it was a horrible experience. The procedure and the recovery did NOT go well at all. I have trouble with anesthesia too, big time, and I also bleed a lot so I don't heal very fast. I've never had a tooth simply "pulled" and have no idea what to expect. I hope it's relatively simple, but I don't even know if I will be awake or under yet. It's a 12 year molar that previously had a root canal. Damn $800 crown is going in the trash. (I wonder if there's a gray market for used crowns?) I really don't want to be put under... has anyone had it done while awake?

The timing isn't great, but I'm hoping I'll be headache free after it's out. Mostly I just hope that flying and/or climbing won't cause me excessive pain afterward.

I really hate dentists and oral surgeons... They practically had to tie me to the chair today just to look at the tooth. It was my first visit in 8 years. I can attest to the efficacy of all those fancy tarter control toothpastes, too. The hygenist said my teeth looked great and was shocked it had been so long.

I had an IV for mine. You catch a good buzz for an hour or so while someone fiddles around with your mouth. You know what's going on but you don't really care.

I guess I better ask. I'm all whipped up into a frenzy LOL. Did I mention I hate dentists and their spawn?

No dentist in 8 years?? Are you boycotting the once-every-six-months thing?

Once every 6 months is a scam in this day and age of floridated water. Anyone who has the money for dental insurance has the smarts to take care of their teeth. I guess a lot of people like the tooth polishing they get at the dentist, but I can't believe insurance pays for it every 6 months. Of course I'm terrified of the dentist... I have good reason though. I've had 4 root canals following a broken jaw as well as the wisdom teeth surgery and several other minor-ish procedures (bonding, crowns, beau coup cavities filled as a kid). I've spent a lot of miserable time in the dentist chair. Even nitrous oxide didn't help.

My kids go every year minimum, usually twice a year. (So far no cavities woo hoo!) I want their development tracked of course and problems averted if they arise. One is getting braces soon OH GOD I had those, too.

I HATE TEETH AND TOOTHCARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was proud when the hygenist said she couldn't tell I was overdue for a cleaning, though.
