Break-in Status

Post by tajl »

Hello,

We'll be climbing/staying/camping for several days soon and wondering what the break-in situation is?
Are there worst places to go?
I checked the board and couldn't find a pattern but any help/advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

breaks-in should be starting back up any minute now. Don't leave valuables in your vehicle, and leave your windows rolled down. That advice is well proven to work...

Miguel's has lockers (bring your own lock) or you can safely leave your stuff in your tent

so far this year i haven't heard of any breakins (knock on wood). still, here's the deal:

-don't leave valuables in your car
-leave your doors unlock , glove compartment open, windows down
-if you think it's going to rain, you can leave a note saying, "doors unlocked" but that doesn't mean your windows won't get broken
-there are lockers behind miguel's
-if you are broken into, contact the appropriate authorities in lee, wolfe, or powell county (you can find info at miguel's and red river outdoors)

also, if anything happens, please let us know. a few places to watch out for:

drive-by
motherload
sore heel
roadside

in the southern region, especially, beware of any cars that aren't obviously climbers (eg: blue ford probe with middle aged folks)

have fun and hope the weather holds.
and great loves will one day have to part -smashing pumpkins

there has been a breakin at roadside. was about a month and a half ago. thats the only one we have heard of so far. like everyone has said. do not leave stuff in the car. a dog only goes to an empty bowl so many times.

I will add: Don't leave your pack where tourists frequent. Even if you hide them.
