as a family member of a pd employee i can say most are good hearted, hard working, committed people who care a lot about peple. some are bad. some are in bad situations at work. most are overworked and misadministered from their co's. some postal emoloyees are bad too. so are some teachers, bus drivers, and carpenters. but if somebody is breaking into my house -im calling 911 - not alan's house. no offense alan 
I speak from experience, kiddo. Most cops are pigs. Some cops aren't pigs. Some cops are heros. Some cops are wise, smart, and believe in their place in making our society a better place for all of us. But most cops are pigs, short dicked bullies that need an excuse to intimidate and abuse other people. They are, unfortunately, the rule not the exception.
Actually, let me qualify that a bit. Small town cops seem to come in about a 50/50 pig ratio. State cops are more like 60% pig. Urban cops run more like 65% pig.
I had six cops over here in "tha hood" a couple of years back and there was one chick in the group that wasn't a fucking thug. That makes five testosterone thugs with guns and badges. There had been a broad daylight theft and it took over 45 minutes for them to show up. A fucking crippled midget could've walked ten blocks by then, and this was a crack addict on a bicycle so he was probably in Indiana. The five male cops were absolute cocksuckers, one and all, since they were on the edge of a housing project, the people involved were black, etc. Being me, I bitched at one of them for being a dick to the victim and I swear if the chick (she was definitely the highest ranking one of them) hadn't butted in I would've at least undergone treatment like the guy in the video or, more likely, I would've been arrested for resisting arrest or some such shit. These guys were looking for someone to push around. Five of them.
I waved down a Jeff. Parish Deputy who was going over 60 in Cherokee park and the fucker threatened me with arrest for no leash (my puppy had run off and I was chasing him when this asshole came screaming down the hill) and drove off. Still haven't heard from professional ethics on that one. Two phone calls and a letter and not a peep. The area the cop was driving, by the way, is curvy and has no street lights. There were pedestrians around, it was really dark, and the speed limit is 25mph. I caught him doing something wrong, he tried (apparently successfully) to bully his way out of it.
That's just two recent experiences with the cops. Remember I've got 17 years of exposure to New Orleans cops under my belt. They may not be typical.
Don't you think it takes a different type to want to be a cop? And at this point wouldn't you agree that being a cop does not pay well enough to be worth it unless you were either someone who maintains the hightest of standards or someone that wants to bully other people with his gun and badge? Are you saying, my young boy, with your high dollar creamy thighs, that you think the cops in these news reports were... noble?

Simple psychology. First, bad people stand out. Second, there is no doubt a psychological profile for macho men and women who want the power since we all know they aren't doing it for the money or the guarantee of no violence in the workplace. Third, most likely the smartest and/or even tempered ones advance much more quickly.

I vehemently disagree with Alan's statement. There are bad apples, good cops want them gone too. My experience with police officers has almost always been positive, except in Cincinnati. Not many people are willing to get up in the morning and risk their lives for people who speak of them with disdain. Those who do are special individuals with their own problems among their rank and file.
