shortest straw trip report
shortest straw trip report
hey people just a little selfless spray disguised as information on a route... i soloed the shortest straw (VI A4+) on el cap over 8 days last, topping out last wednesday. fixed the first pitch and then moved at a pitch and a half a day pace. pretty weather for the first 7 days sunny and 60. runoff and seepage made keeping the fly on the ledge each night. most of the route was pretty cool and all but 2 pitches are a3 or better by supertopo standards. large flake missing on pitch 8. had to bypass it with some sick hooking and heading to traverse into zenyatta mondata at the 9 o clock roof and then penji back into some heads and hooks on the straw. supplies held out for the wall and i topped out with a gallon of water and 2 days food. last night on the wall was gnarly. ledge was spinning out in space due to the wind and all i could do was hold on the corners while i was being ripped around. ice fall woke me up in ht emorning but the wall is steep so i was well protected. last 3 pitches were super iiced over and the spindrift was crazy. water blowing up the wall. topped out with rescue people in the meadow watchiong me! sick wall with pretty bitching weather. great time but i gotta go back to the summit tomorow and carry more shit down.
fuck the haters

I would have been afraid to leave my stuff up there, someone could have taken it.
