Joyce Merritt (aka: jamlayer) and her husband recently climbed Kilimanjaro in Africa as a fundraiser for MS. www.kynmss.org (click on events, climb for hope). They raised about $8K for the local MS chapter. There will be a short follow up article in tomorrow's Herald about the trip.

It's really inspirational to hear of people doing things like this. Props to you and your husband, Joyce! Any trip stories to share?

Thanks, Artsay! The Herald bumped the article until next Tues, Feb. 28th so they could run a photo that was going to be cut for space. There will also be an article in the Hamburg Journal March edition (coming out next week).

It was great to be able to take a trip that we planned to do anyway and turn it into a fundraiser for a good cause. All of the money raised will stay in the Lexington MS chapter.

The trip was more difficult than I really expected. We were to take the Western Breach route, but a large rockfall killed three Americans and injured many more Americans and Africans the day before we started. The Western Breach was closed causing us to take a much longer way around the east side of the mountain and a much longer summit day, without the acclimization climb we had planned prior to summit day. As a result, I humbly admit, I got severe altitude sickness. I rode piggyback down the mtn. on the backs of some wonderful African porters. Many thanks for Kiliwarriors. Should anyone want to make the trek, I highly recommend my guide co. See their website at www.go-kili.com
