Has anybody else looked at the LAC stuff on the FS website?

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/boone/lac/

Look at the powerpoint slideshow "visitor impacts."
THe other slideshows have me a little worried. It looks like they want to go to a 'permit system?' The next meeting is Tuesday dec. 21st? next week. I'm unfortunatly directing a musical and cannot be there. Is anybody going to represent climbers? I imagine that, if we are not involved in the LAC process, we will lose permission to climb on FS property.

You mean Feb 21st?

Bill and Shannon (as well as some other climbers and recreational users) have been attending each of the LAC meetings and are involved with the process.

Although representation from the climbing community has been involved in the LAC meetings, please do not hesitate to personally get involved. This is a political process that will directly impact climbing. With the merger of Stanton and Morehead, a new District Ranger, the MOA and the LAC, I would encourage you to attend.

The inventory and assessment of current resources is almost complete. In other words; individuals have walked the trails recording miles of official and user trails, counting campsites and recording the conditions of the soil. The next step is to obtain a public consensus on what should be monitored and what levels of impact would be “acceptable”. Included in the topic is number of routes per 1000 acres and impact at the base.

Several activists currently attend, including those with passion to preserve archeological and historical sites, economic development, preservation and botany.

The following step is to determine management procedures if and when the impact supersedes the deemed “acceptable” levels. This is where to procedure may get worrisome and complicated.

I do not speak for the RRGCC, but I personally would love to have ANYONE who is interested in preserving and expanding climbing on public/private lands attend and become part of this process. I’m also deeply passionate about the economic impact and development for the local (particularly Wolfe County) community. If you’re interested in this facet of the process, I would also welcome your involvement.

If you are interested in getting involved and I can help or encourage you in any manner, feel free to call 888-637-6148 or email JKennedy@TrueNorthOutfitters.com or if you see Bill or Chris I'm sure they would take the time to get you up to date.
