Is climbing worth it?

Would you take a job if it ment you couldnt climb for one year?
Maybe in a gym once every 2 months!

I've been offered a job for one year in Key West, the only problem is, the closest gym that i know of is in Miami, 3 hours away, and dont even consider climbing real rock there (I think there is a current thread about the most excellent climbing there)

What would your choice be?

I voted no because I have abundant options in my field. I'd really have to think about it if that weren't true.

I just couldn't do it. I'm sure some people could but not me. Working in Key West sounds pretty cool...like more of a vacation then work...but personally we have a hard time taking a vacation if we're not climbing.

What kind of job is it?

Sounds like a good opportunity to live in a really interesting and beautiful place. I'd jump at the chance since you may not get another opportunity.

Gaar,
Nope, I wouldn't-especially if the money from the job isn't there. I was faced with a similiar situation a few years ago. It was to move to Opa Locka (or the vicinity-Miami, Ft. Lauderdale) to fly DC-3's to Nassau and back. Guess what-I choose "no". The deciding factors- the nearest climbing gym is too far away, there are no crags to climb down there, and I'm not giving climbing up-it's my mental sanity (what's left of it  ).

Choosing "no" was another good reason in itself--the owner/operator I ferried the airplane down for ended up crashing a different DC-3 of his earlier last year. Landed it on 56th street in Ft. Lauderdale-was all over the major media channels.
