Could someone please build a gym? Close to campus preferably. A big bird wall and a big campus board would be nice. heated optional, but protected from the elements necessary.
thanks

What would be really cool is if that millionaire would pay off the loan for the PMRP.

It would be great if someone would build a gym in lexington. You have to imagine that if it was run well, they could do o.k.. I just don't see it happening in the near future.

What do you see happening in the near future? How far out can you see? There's something I need info about.

Just let me know what you need info about and I will see if I can help you out.

What I mean is, I just don't see it happening. When you take into account that the red is only 60 minutes away, two gyms have shut down in recent years, there is the gym at the Johnson center that students can use for free, blah blah blah. Though a decent gym in Lexington would be a good training resource.

The co-op group came darn close to building a gym before disintergrating under the challenge of getting consensus from a 30 person group. But given all the reasons chriss mentions and more, I'm still convinced that the co-op model is the best business model for Lexington.

Lurkist, Pigsteak, Bram...we all keep talking about it. Forget organizing 30 people! Four or five people ought to just build it.

So, who else is ready to throw in $150 to join plus $40/month once we get this bigbird built?

There are gyms near real rock all over the country. CT was just an OK gym unless you were super strong. LR was killer, but maybe not in the best location, or maybe just a bit too nice/big. The problem is, you need the birtday party space to pay the bills, but most climber types spend most of thier time bouldering. If you could find a space a little bit bigger then the bouldering area at LR for cheap enough, I think you could at least pay the bills with only climbers. Bigger might equal more income, but also way more overhead.

The Chicago Shop model works the best. Just get a few good friends, no legal binding contracts, and get to work. Gentleman's aggreements. Not legal aggrements like the co-op route. That's why the Lexington co-op failed...that and people had different visions of what they wanted in a gym.

It takes a ton of work to have a gym. We strip our walls every 2-3 months and setting is fun but time consuming. Make sure that whoever gets involved is a worker and WANTS to work in the gym and not just boulder in the gym. That's why our setup is great because we have a regular group that loves being there, works hard, and makes kick ass problems...for each other. You gotta want a gym AND all the work that goes with it.

It doesn't seem like too many people are going to be willing to take on the brunt of the fincial burden in exchange for setting problems the way you and Ray have.
