do you say "root" or "rowt" ?

I used to say "rowt" but find myself saying it both ways at different times. Now I'm so confused I sometimes refer to routers as "root-ers"

I think either way is grammatically correct. Its odd, tho. For "out", we say owt not oot. Or the condition gout - we say gowt not goot.

Depends...Canadians say oooot.

how about "rut" for route. That's a nice substitute as well. You should add that to your choices Sandy. "I'ma gonna go climb this here rut...the one wit da huge horizantal ruf at the top....yep yep."

When I lived in Augusta, GA. my mom was a teacher's aide and since she was a "damn yankee" the teachers would always ask her for help when teaching the children the vowel sounds. For instance: DOG with a long southern drawl is "DAAAAAAWWG" (imagine a georgia peach trying to teach the little kiddies the "o" sound with "daaaaawg") Sounds like "OOWW" in the middle ... at least they knew it wasn't really supposed to sound that way....accents are fun.

thanks for participating in my sidetrack.
