5.7-5.8 concentration

Post by walrus »

Where is the best spot in the red with the highest concentration of routes at this level? I didn't find many in my guide book which I think has a copyright of 1989 .

Roadside has a 5.7 a couple 5.8s and a handful of 5.9s. Muir valley, Rebel Camp wall also has a 5.7, a 5.8 and a few 5.9s. Both of these are great walls for beginner climbers.

Yeah, that depends on what you want to climb. Sport, trad, or both?

Perform a search on this website and you'll get the whole list of 5.7-5.8.

The search function is amazingly powerful, but your first time through and be a bit confusing:

Go to the top of this page and click on "Online Guidebook". At that page, click on the word "Search" below the list of regions. On the search page, ignore the big text box near the top. To find all the sport routes between 5.7 and 5.8, make sure that only "Sport" is checked (uncheck the options like Trad and Bouldering). Then enter "5.7" in the lower "rating" box and "5.8" in the higer box. Then either hit the enter button on your keyboard, or go to the bottom of the page and click on the "Ask the crag sloth" button. Et voila! You should get 28 options (5 of which are at closed areas, sadly)

FYI, Rebel is at Muir. And here's the link for the search:
