I recently began working as the public defender in Juvenile Court's "Drug Court" and I was wondering if anyone out there has any knowledge/experience/sources for incorporating climbing into an activity to help kids in juvenile court.

I know a guy that took kids like that into his scout troop. Coincidentally, they were known as the hoods in the woods.

Paul Pezl. He created exactly that!
If I am not mistaking, he created outward bound, and similar.
Although it was noted that they are not exactly the same, stories and books have reported that he would even take "such" kids and give them the opportunity to join with ONLY what they could afford. Some great climbers came of that.
Keep us posted.

I think its a great way to help the kids out. Gives them something to look forward to and for a few that get hooked it could be a way out of thier current situation. If you do decide to bring a large group down drop me a line and I can hook you up with some nice long easy sport lines and rappels, no other groups around. Props to ya for trying to help some kids out ! I wish everyone would give just one weekend a year.

there's a specialty degree you can get with special education masters programs that allows you to take emotionally disturbed kids out climbing. It's a wonderful idea. It gives most of these kids responsibility for the first time in their life

Well, at least its a step in the right direction.... you take them from smoking crack, committing crimes and endangering others' lives to smoking dope and drinking Ale8 and Jack Daniels and endangering their own. :)
