Last saturday, I was out at staircase wall (teaching siter in law to climb) and across the valley were some party campers with four wheeler. How did they get up there? the trail is far too trecherous.

There is an old logging road on the top. Not sure where you would access it from though.

As far as I remember that road is accessed from private property. I'll try to remember when I get a chance to report that to the Forest Service unless you want to go ahead and do that yourself Huggy. For those that may not be aware, FS Law Enforcement is now based out of the Gladie Visitor's Center.

They are getting in from the backside of Clifty Wilderness from private property and/or a county road. The road number escapes me at the moment. I think it is the same road where you can put in for the upper red river. It sucks that OHVs are getting into the wilderness area. Call the FS to report this type of stuff. You can get a cell signal from ridge tops in that area. Call law enforcement and have them come up there and catch the tresspassers in the act.

That road is off of 77. Its before the road to Mariba Fk. and I think (I know at one time it was) it is gravel. It dead ends now in someone's yard, but used to go almost to the top of the big rockhouse west of Indian Staircase to a big field out there. It'd be fairly easy to get a four-wheeler out there. And I'm sure a lot of locals don't realize its a wilderness area, or if they do that they understand the implications of that, or if they understand the implications that they care.
