That's right, over the weekend I received 1,075 spam messages to my work account. The worthless idiots in ITS tell me there is nothing they can do and it is a network wide problem. We use Outlook by the way. I ain't no genius, but I think I could do a better job of filtering these things out. At least write a filter for the messages that are obviously SPAM. I get some of the same messages 10 times a day. In fact on average I get one spam message every minute. WTF! They tell me they can't even sort out the messages that are coming from inside the network. WTF!

I get around 15-20 pieces of spam per day, our spam filter catches most of them, and usually less then 5 make it to my inbox. I also get false positives, where mail I need, ends up in the spam folder, so I have to look through that every couple days anyway.
There are options out there for desktop spam protection if your IT won't support the server versions.

Transy just instituted the SpamBayes add on for Outlook when they upgraded everyone to outlook 2003. Pretty slick, no spam in the inbox and no false positives yet.

The spam filter is the best thing about MSN but it takes it a while to learn what you want and don't want.

My server uses cPanel X and has a built in spam detector which means a spam message gets through every couple of days. Since I've had a web presence since 1999 and have web addresses posted on my site and others, I think it works pretty well. The filter uses spamcop and a couple of other sources.
I have one unprotected e-mail address and it gets nothing but spam. Funny thing is that I've never given that address out or used it to send e-mail.
